Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil

Update 5/15/2012: This giveaway is closed and the winner has been notified. Thanks for entering! You can buy Tropical Traditions coconut oil on their website (where it is frequently on sale).

I love coconut oil. It’s a staple in our home. Today I’m pretty excited because I get to talk to you all about Tropical Traditions coconut oil and why I love it, what some of my favorite food uses of coconut oil are (there are a ton of uses for coconut oil, but I’m just going to share a few food uses), and some important information that Tropical Traditions wants to make sure you know. And at the end of this post, you’ll have the opportunity to enter a giveaway for a free gallon of Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil. Yep, that’s right – a gallon!

Why I Love Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil

Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil Pint

There are a lot of brands and type of coconut oil. A lot. And I’ve tried several different brands for a variety of different uses. But here’s why I particularly love the coconut oil from Tropical Traditions:

  • Their coconut oil is some of the best tasting coconut oil on the market, in my opinion and experience. It has a light coconut taste that’s just to die for.
  • It’s unrefined and made from fresh, organic coconuts. Your end product is only as good as the ingredients. And they use high-quality ingredients.
  • The coconut oil isn’t mass-produced. It’s made “by families who are coconut farmers using old-fashioned traditional methods that have been used in the Philippines for hundreds of years”, to quote the Tropical Traditions website. The more into real food I get, the more the method in which my food is made matters to me.
  • Their coconut oil has a high amount of antioxidants. Volcanic soil makes these coconuts rich in antioxidants (more so than other brands).
  • The folks at Tropical Traditions are a joy to deal with. If customer service and ethical business practices matter to you, then you’ll love Tropical Traditions. Everyone I’ve encountered has been more than helpful and kind.

Some of My Favorite Food Uses of Coconut Oil

We’ve been using and eating coconut oil for almost a year now. I’m always finding new ways to get coconut oil into our diet, but these are my favorite food uses as of now:

  • Scramble your eggs in a tablespoon of coconut oil. I never knew what I was missing before I did this. It makes them light and fluffy and gives them a hint of a coconut flavor. Even my husband, who’s not crazy about scrambled eggs, likes this.
  • Make fudge. My new favorite fudge recipe includes coconut oil, nut butter (almond butter, peanut butter, etc), cocoa powder, and honey. This is an awesome snack for when you’re craving something sweet.
  • Substitute coconut oil for butter or shortening in recipes. I do this all the time.
  • Add coconut oil to smoothies. The trick is to make sure it’s melted, and then dribble it into your blender as it’s going. It’ll add a slight coconut flavor to your smoothie and it’ll taste delicious.

Tropical Traditions has a huge recipes area on their website, so make sure to check that out for even more coconut oil food uses.
